This show had a great run, longer than most. However, the five-season rule to the television series definitely applies. Season six was classic shark jumping. Hell, it even had the female McGinley: Rena Sofer! Well, it was a great ride while it lasted!
The show jumped in season 5. That season has been called the best season of the show by most, but I would disagree. While it had an amazing beginning, and an amazing ending (and good performances by Jean Smart and Greg Itzin). However, much of the middle of the season was complete crap. People don't remember it as such because of the ending, but I was downright bored by much of the episodes in the middle of this season. So much so that I've never managed to watch this season in its entirety twice. The first four seasons I've seen at least three times each, season one probably more than that. Season five is when the show started to get really repetitive...ie, another unreasonable leader takes control of CTU, another terror attack takes place at CTU, Jack has to go it alone because command disagrees with him, there's a mole, etc. In short, I simply disagree that this is the best season because it isn't anymore near as original as some of the earlier ones. Season six, of course, is FAR worse, but the cracks in the wall began here.
Great show, i don't think it jumped but it came close in the last season, when it was shown Jack's dad and brother were terrorists. Also the next season, premiering in 2009 may be the season to kill the show. No CTU? Tony comes back to life? Tony is a terrorist? Let's hope for the sake of the fans, 24 stays true to its roots and cuts out these assenine ideas.
im rewatching the seasons, jyst finished 1 again and it's probably the best. Granted; Kim getting kidnapped so many times was stupid as was terry's amnesia but i think it had everything.
Season 2 was also great, but yet again lim let it down for me.
Season 3 was also great as i particularly liked the chemistry between salazar and jack.
Chase was a nice addition, sadly not kept, it also introduced chloe who's great and tony, michelee and parmer were around.
4 was also good. 5 was decent but too much character killing and 6? well that was awful all round. slthough i loved morris.

I quit watching after the season when Tony came back and was doing ALL THE SAME THINGS JACK DID because he was a terrorist puppet JUST LIKE JACK WAS because the terrorists had his loved one as a hostage JUST LIKE JACK. I mean, WTF?
I also got tired of the repetitive cliffhangers and plot twists. It quickly became too improbable and unbelievable even for someone who wanted to believe the storyline.
Looking back, it lost all credibility for me during season ONE where hottie Kim and anorexic Teri are kidnapped and one of the kidnappers decides he's gonna rape Kim but- BUT decides to rape Teri instead because she pleads "Please oh please, take me, but spare my poor hot, voluptuous, blonde, teenaged daughter!" Seriously, what evil kidnapper/terrorist is gonna care enough to skip the hottie and do her old wrinkled anorexic, flat-chested Mom? Huh? HUH?

Maybe Tony wrote the plot of the 6th season, in retaliation for to get dead in the 5th. In this way, Tony sunk the show with a diabolical laugh, saying: "No more the Jack's show, now it's TONY!!! WAHAHAHAHA!!!".
For those of you waiting for new "24" episodes, here's some stuff you can COUNT on next season:
1.Jack "goes rogue" for the 186th time.
2.Jack screaming something dramatic like: "THE BOMB IS IN PLACE!",or "WE DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THAT!", all the while sounding as if he were having lower bowel issues or, in fact, a total rectal blockage.
3.That your local Wal-Mart or discount grocery store has better security than the CTU Los Angeles office.
4.Jack will torture somebody.
5.Jack, in turn, will himself be tortured (yet be good to go in about an hour or two afterward).
6.Whoever plays the President will either help Jack or completely screw him over (one of the two,or both).
7.That I'll be one of the idiots watching (if for nothing else, the comedic value).

Sure it jumped. Season 5 was already pushing it with a President who was inept one minute, then suddenly behind the whole thing the next with what later turns out to be Jack's 'brah' (luckily for season 5 they never introduced that plot twist). Season 6 really headed off in the soap opera direction that 24 has always tended toward when Curtis couldn't restrain himself and had to 'put down'. Then the 'brah', the 'dad', etc. Just nonsense. If you had to pick the point, I'd say killing off Curtis, season 6. That's when it jumped.
This show jumped when Bauer's dad showed up....
What was dumb about it was that there was no mention of Jack Bauer's brother, Lewis Skolnick....
I mean, C'MON!!!!!!!!
Am I the only person here that remember's that Jack Bauer's dad was in "Revenge Of The Nerds'?????

Am I the only one who thought it went downhill after season 3?
Since then, it has just been nonsense.

Seriously, as a huge 24 fan, this show jumped it big time when Martha Logan kills Charles Logan (former Pres.) in Season 6 (ep 13).
Sure, the father and son being involved was a stretch, but ever a moment felt like it came out of left field, it was this "spontaneous" murder- in Martha's living room- with the fruit cutting butter knife (or whatever it was).
Anyone second that? God bless
