I really have to defend Donovan Patton. His character 'Joe' might not have shown the same kind of fondness toward Blue as Steve did, but he is a good-looking guy and just as cheerful as Steve was on the show. He didn't necessarily act dumber than Steve; viewers must remember how often Steve's eyes used to dart wildly around when a pawprint clue was in like a three-foot radius! Joe is a good sport; probably the best example of that was when he had to sing that toilet song on the "Morning Music" episode. No, Blues Clues only jumped because some idiot producers decided Blue should start talking. That ended the whole mystery about Blue's thoughts, and she went from cute and innocent to cutesy-fake. If ratings were on the decline, the show should have been cancelled while still decent.
Blue sounded like a woman because Blue is female.
I liked this show, but when Blue spoke...that voice DOES NOT match the dog. Why do they make cartoon animals sound like women? They did the same for Zebby the Zebra on Zebby's Zoo. I feel they should sound like little girls...Blue IS a puppy, after all.
I would always make fun of Steve for not being able to find waht's right there and that stupid dance, but I always thought it was a good show for kids (it made them feel like they where the smartest children in the world compared to Steve.) Then the bring Joe in....he makes Steve look like a combo of bio-chemist, Docter, and Lawyer! No one is really that dumb...not even on a children show where they are supposed to act that dumb! (I didn't belive that urban myth about the guy playing Steve dyeing of course, but he might as well have as badly as his replacement was!)

Oh but no that just is not enough! Let's add more and more! Then make Blue talk! That was the only thing I liked, the dog didn't talk even though every applience and such did it was

well atleast the dog isn't...

I feel bad for my younger brother and sister who are so young that they don't realize how crappy this show is... oh bitter sweet youth....
i never liked periwinkle. just an unnecessary addition to the show. But, the show was still good. I was extremely sad when Steve left. Then here comes Joe to take his place and save the day, and that's when the show jumped the shark. Adding periwinkle was just a sign for the beginning of the decline of Blue's Clues.
This show JTS with the birth of Paprika.
Joe is a retard! It takes him like 15 minutes to find the fricken clue whereas for Steve, he'd look where we told him to and bam, that's it. Steve was sweet, kinda baby-faced and innocent, and Joe is just this tall creepy pedo-smile supporting weirdo that points 5 inches away from what we're supposed to be looking at.
And Blue talking just explains how the generations are slowly losing intelligence. The way Blue made nudges and his tone, you could always tell what he was saying, but that isn't enough anymore, now he has to speak in perfect and slow english.
never jumped... it's a kids show for gods sake!
first of all to the comment that says (joe the football player vs. steve the smoker) steve DOES NOT smoke! im tired of hearing all of these crazy rumors! im just sick! the reason why steve left was because he was loosing his hair and didnt want kids to see him lyk that....also he wanted to make a music career.....thats all! but about blues room....i think they totally killed the show! when i watched the first episode with my mom we just couldnt believe are eyes! i mean...what happened to blues CLUES! blues room just ticks me off....i mean....i dont want blue as a talking puppet!!! SHES a GIRL that totally sounds like a BOY! another thing is that i dont like how the pictures draw themselfs...i liked it when they actually drew it for you....i remember when i used to watch the show and i used to draw along with them. but now those days are over because apperantly pictures can sing! =[
Blue's Clues is great for kids, and I can see how it achieved its escape-show
following among adults too. I mean, Steve/Joe and Blue had it made! Loud colorful rooms, two personal chefs with French accents, and they didn't even have to get up off the chair to get their mail! They could pop into shoebox dioramas and candy lands and fairy tale castles whenever they wanted. The show only jumped when someone got the idiotic idea to make Blue talk. She lost that sweet sort of innocent quality- and I thought the show's theme was supposed to be about GUESSING what was going on with that puppy.
THe first show of blue's clues was amazing. I watched blue's clues since i was a baby. THe first episode was also the pilot episode.
i cant believe they made blue talk! i can remember watching blues clues and abosolutely loving it! i could understand steve leaving for "college" but making blue talk in puppet form to "Hey You" in a completely different voice is just wrong!! they have ruined the show!!
I can live with Joe replacing Steve (even though I think Steve was WAY cooler), but when Blue started talking is when the show really jumped the shark for me. Blue doesn't talk, he makes those barking noises!
My eight year old daughter finds the show really awesome... She looks forward to it day by day after school. she excells in school and thinks really smart for her age. I don't think a show like this is making kids stupid, instead, it motivates them to think in different angles and find out that there are lots of possible solutions to ordinary situations.
Joe is the "SHEMP" of Blues Clues, what can I say? He has his merits - he has his good points - but in the looming shadow if his brilliant predcessor, he pales and disappoints.
