I'm not sure which choice to vote: day one, or birth (whoever decided to create this steaming dogpile of a show).
I miss Friends. In this day and age of the internet it is so easy, and popular, to try to show our sophistication, our growth, blah blah blah, by going back and trashing popular shows of the past. And while many shows hang on past their prime, Friends was not one of the. More of a Comedic Soap than a Situation Comedy, Friends will stand the test of time and even in reruns is the best comedy on TV today (however How I Met Your Mother is not too far behind).

My wife and I have the entire series on DVD and watch a few episodes each night in series order. The shows writing and character development is still better than anything currently on TV (circa 2008). It is funny however to watch the end of one season and then put in the next DVD to start the next and see them in the same clothes in the same location but with different hair lengths and styles. In 10 seasons the characters matured and grew. Rachel grew up and became independent, friends got married like they do in real life, Phobie had to deal with her far out ideas in the light of reality and make compromises. Yes Ross got a little too whiney in the last three seasons but his chivalry was one we would like in all our friends, Monica got a little too neurotic but that neuroticism holds the group together, Chandler's one liners did not come as often but they still made you laugh out loud, and Joey, well Joey never really grew at all (but we all know people in real life that are just like they were in High School and never grew up or wised up).

The whole series was centered on the Ross & Rachel relationship and them winding up together. It could have jumped the shark in season three; however they were only together for about 10 episodes that season. The rest of the series we were always watching and waiting for what we knew would happen in the end, we just did not know how it would fall into place, and that is what held the show togather.

Also the guest starts in great roles. Tom Selleck, Julia Roberts, Hank Azaria, Alec Baldwin, Susan Sarandon who can forget the Thanksgiving Episodes with Brad Pitt (kind of prophetic now) and Christina Applegate (who won and Emmy for her appearance). 30 years from now it will be like watching old episodes of I Love Lucy and seeing the guest starts.

I need a good laugh so I am gong pop in the DVD of “The One With The Video Tape”.
Rachel: “In about five seconds you are going to see Ross kiss me”
Ross: “And in about three seconds you are going to see why”
This jumped when Chandler and Monica got married. When they were dating it was funny and there was no sign of a shark jump. Once they got married, it became dull and Monica was just awful.
Chandler's humour is probably what kept me watching the whole 10 years. He's probably the one character you could never get tired of. Everyone else went through irritable personality phases.

The episode where they had Phoebe trying and failing to teach Joey French really made a mockery of his character - you really don't believe he is THAT stupid, but the writers obviously gave up on giving him some credit and just went overboard. The whole Ross-Rachel saga got overplayed to the point where you just didn't care anymore. They had plenty of chances to get back together but conveniently only wanted to when they were dating other people. Chandler and Monica were good together, but ironically it just made Monica's character twice as neurotic and it did get annoying sometimes.

I'd say if the show jumped it all, it was probably the time they had Ross say Rachel at the altar instead of Emily. Unless he bumped his head or was delirious and not seeing who was in front of him, there's just no way that would happen. Then again, Friends was always one of my favorite shows, so things like that never overshadowed the fact that this was simply one of the greatest shows of our time. Friends was definitely at its best when the six of them were single.
Recently, I became very interested in this original and warm TV series (due to the sheer volume of reruns on almost every channel).

I must say that I'm blown away by this brilliant show -- from the loveable characters to the sharp writings and the most amazing cliff-hangers (se ason 5 particularly).

"No sitcom has ever been as deliberately self-effacing as Friends."-quoting TIME magazine, and I think this is what's happening some people mistake the simple, modest humour of friends into stupidity; only an intelligent person can differentiate between both, unfortunately some pretentious people accuse it of being "stupid made for stupid people" -- anyhow, I hope I will borrow the rest of the series from my friend and see (season 7 to 10).
I think that it was very interesting that the last poster said nothing about "Will anb Grace". In the fourth season, there was a two-parter called "Someone Old, Someplace New, Something Borrowed, Someone's Due". For the past, three-and-a-half years, Will and Grace had been living in an apartment the size of the bathroom. They were constantly bellyaching about this reality! After much trail and error, they were able to find an apartment that they could affort the size of the whole station! However, after a week's time, they found that the new apartment gave them a lot more to bellyache about then the old one ever had! They longed to get back to the bathroom-sized apartment! I thought that the moral of this episode was typical and highly predictable. Be careful what you wish for because you just might get it! Maybe, if Will and Grace had grown up with such stories as "The Wizard of Of", "The Country Mouse and the Town Mouse" or had watched any of about half of the episodes of "The Flintstones" they might not have been so quick to bit off more than they could chew!
Okay, why is it that every show set in New York (Friends, Seinfeld, Mad About You are among the worst offenders) has people living in apartments the size of Grand Central Station, when in actuality apartments in New York are as large as Grand Central Station....BATHROOM STALLS? Love Friends though. I'd still rather watch Friends repeats on TBS than most of the other slop that's on now.
One of the best shows EVER! I still watch the reruns but it went downhill for me when joey fell in love with rachel that was complete nonsense.
The character of Ursula from "Mad About You" and the character of her twin sister Phoebe from "Friends" were both played by Lisa Kudrow. On both series, there were occasional cases in which they overlapped and the two sisters were seen together. They used camera tricks similar to those used in the "Patty Duke Show" and with Al and his brother Anthony on "Happy Days". In my opinion, Lisa Kudrow was hot stuff in both roles! Wow!
My favorite character was Ursula. Does anyone know her name in real life? I know her sister Lisa kudrow is pretty popular, but I've never heard of her.
