I honestly can't believe people don't think Lost jumped. Did anyone else see the Island disappear? Did anyone else remember the other island disappeared with it? Island 2 was probably the beginning of Lost's jump for me. That was the point at which the writers couldn't think of a good reason for Sawyer and Kate to not escape. So, they invented a new island. Rather than coming up with a good reason to keep Sawyer and Kate in prison, they just wrote up a new Island knowing that the fan base would eat it.

Now that the writers know the fan base will accept anything, they've been giving them anything they want. Nothing needs to be explained as long as they keep promising "Trust me, it will all make perfect sense in the long run." Yeah. Yellow glowing fog breathing frozen donkey wheels in penguin caves with alien writing on the walls are able to warp space time. Truuuust me, we'll explain everything.

I hated it when Shannon died too, and since I haven't seen season three or four yet, I am shocked that Eko is gone too. Hmm. I have to say that had I watched season one and then two (I watched season 2 first on DVD, then season 1) I wouldn't have continued watching. season 1 was unbearably hokey in places - yeah, Boone's death is a sacrifice the island demanded is pretty bad, but the moth lesson for Charlie? Locke teaching Charlie to kick heroin using a MOTH? Struggle makes you stronger, yeah, right, what a concept. Got cliches? Next, what they did with the extras was so contrived and the writers were obviously trying so bloody hard to account for all 40 survivors - I think it was the episode where they moved everyone to the caves and Jack corraled all the extras to haul the equipment - no one looked like they'd ever had any camera time beforethat and it was so unbelievably bad, I winced. By the time Arzt appeared (hey, an extra with a name!) the writers seemed to have a better handle on it, but they failed again with that LAME joke about Scott being mistaken for Steve who drowned, or Steve being mistaken for Scott, or someone's husband, I don't know and I didn't care. I started to wonder when it might devolve into a Gilligan's island scenario where one week, they all put on an amazing performance of South Pacific, with Kate singing, about Jack, "I'm gonna wash that man right outta my hair"...

But there were some marvellous moments I played over and over again, such as the exquisitely painful experience Locke had with his father. Oh god that hurt, and Terry O'Quinn played it beautifully. Jin and Sun gave some nice moments - Jin is so dark and his redemption is worth the watch. Nuff said. I can't wait for season 3 to come in my mailbox.

Em
I don't think it jumped, but, I did find it weird how Charlie went from not being able to swim in the 1st season to an Olympic hopeful swimmer.
Waaaaahhhhh!! The show doesn't answer all my questions. Waaaahhhh!! Each show opens up new questions. Waaaahhh!! Listen up, idiots, that's the point. This show is great because it makes you think. I enjoy listening to what my co-workers and friends think and I enjoy sharing my ideas with them. You want simple T.V.? Go watch Keeping up with the fatasses or I Love an untalented hootcie from NY or Three bimbos and a geezer from the Playboy mansion or take 30 minutes to open up some suitcases or whatever other crap that is out there.
I think that Boone and Shannon should've been kept on longer. There were a lot more expendable characters than them. Their relationship and characters were very complex and had the potential to be explored more. The writers' crappy excuses weren't convincing. Boone was a sacrifice that the island demanded? Yeah right, more like they wanted to shock people with a death to prove that they will likely consider killing off anyone who isn't Jack. Shannon's story had nowhere else to go? What, and Rose/Bernard's did?? Totally insulting, and I heard the actor who plays Sayid was very angry with the decision to kill her off, as his character had just got involved with her.
Killing Shannon! I stopped watching the show after that. The producers claim they told Shannon's story and yet I found her more fascinating on her death episode and wanted to see more. And the producers need to realize that not EVERYONE is going to like who they like. (KATE) I could care less about Kate. When I saw Shannon die I said goodbye Lost. You were a decent show for about 30 episodes, but you just jumped the shark.
I really liked this show at first and found it very intriguing to try to stay in tune with it, but it's beginning to get on my last nerve now! It seems like they've never quite tied up not even ONE loose end - EVER - and after a while I think other viewers like myself, will just get bored with it and quit watching. I got an actual headache the last episode I watched from all the b.s. going on in the episode! I decided that from now on, th eonly way I can ever watch this show again is to have about 4 extra dry martinis and fire up a ty stick first prior to tuning in. Maybe being stoned will help....
It did briefly jump the shark at the end of series three with the terrible cliffhanger "we have to go back" and the frankly quite boring episodes. However, series 4 regained any doubt in my mind of it being a bad show with some excellent writing and especially pacing. It has stuck close to the feeling of Season 2, and continues to be an excellent series. I can't wait for the fifth season!
I don't think the show's jumped - not yet anyway - but it sure lost something in the 2nd season. Episodes got slower and had a lot more unnecessary flashbacks.

And to the below poster, are you kidding? The writers said that Kate and Sawyer slept together because they love each other. The choice to go with this relationship was the right one because her and Jack are dullsville. No chemistry at all. They've always been like brother and sister. Her and Sawyer have always suited each other because their scenes sizzle, and Sawyer loves Kate for who she is (unlike Jack, who wants her to be someone she's not).
Sawyer and Kate in a polar bear cage. Was done only to put two hot people together and made zero sense to the storyline of the show. Kate had spent the previous 40 episodes in love with Jack. It was a disgusting love scene too. Thank God they fixed that this last season. Season 3 in entirety up to the finale was terrible. They are back to form this season. I'll pretend like S3 never existed since it made no difference to the overall scheme of the show.
I'm a big fan of this show and i've watched it religiously since it began but that season finale left me bewildered. I don't think it's JTS yet but the possibility of that happening next season is a guarantee until they can explain how Locke ended up off the island and named Jeremy Bentham. Don't get me wrong i think this season was great but this ending just didn't sit right with me. I look forward to another head-scratching season to come.
The show jumped the shark in the last season. It just became absolutely ludicrous.

The people on the boat find out about the bomb - don't you think they'd be all scrambling to get onto the helicopter?

What about the first boat of Island survivors who got onto the boat?

Yeah, despite spending x amount of time with them - Jack et al don't give a damn.
Hate to sound like a prick, but some of you (not referring to people who dislike the show in general) are idiots. There are plenty of complaints about the show that I would consider valid, but a couple of comments have really irked me. Specifically:

1) This was a show about getting off an island and it isn't anymore.

And

2) This has become a Science Fiction show.

I mean....wow. First, even if the castaways were originally focused on getting off the island, this has never been a show about getting off an island. The title LOST doesn't even refer to them being on the island. The show is about a bunch of people who are lost in their lives, and season four just reinforces that perfectly. Off the island, Kate was on the run from the law, Sawyer was a detestable con man, Locke couldn't walk....it was only when the group arrives on the island that many of them were able to find themselves. They simple don't realize this until the Oceanic 6 get off the island and find themselves lost again (Sayid working for Ben, Hurley back in a mental institution, etc.). Honestly, how would the show even be interesting for four years if it was only about getting off the island?

Second, the idea that this show "turned into a science fiction" show is even dumber. Yeah, (sarcasm alert) this show was very realistic in the first season....except for in the very first episode where a smoke monster kills the pilot of their plane....or in the fourth episode where John Locke is suddenly able to walk again upon crashing down on the island. How about the implication that a psychic knew Claire was going to get stuck on the island before she left Sydney? And didn't the castaways see MULTIPLE things that had no business on the island (horse, polar bear, Jack's father, etc.)? All of this happened in season one so if you just figured out that Lost is a science fiction show when Ben moved the island in season four, I honestly just don't know what to tell you.
There were five or six guns in the Marshall's case, they covered that. There were guns in the hatch. The Others had their own guns, Rousseau had her own guns; all of which were constantly passing back and forth. Noone carried them on the plane but, the Marshall and he had them in a locked case, remember Jack wore the key around his neck. And Locke brought alot of knives in a case that he was going to take on his Walkabout.
